The Natural Legacy Project is a three-part project Maya has in mind for her Poet Laureate position. The project would bring poetry to open spaces in Sonoma County and would bring the works of Sonoma County-based poets to wider audiences through locally-aired videos. A special focus would be given to natural areas that are now in the early stages of regeneration, which began shortly after the October 2017 fires in Sonoma County and nearby parts of Northern California. Public reading events in and close to open spaces will be an important part of The Natural Legacy Project.
